Jyothi Surekha Vennam, an Indian compound archer, showcased exceptional skill and precision as she claimed both the individual and mixed team gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 1 held today. In the morning session, Jyothi and her debutant partner Ojas Deotale defeated Chinese Taipei 159-154 in the compound mixed team final, narrowly missing out on a world record by just one point. Jyothi shot a perfect 10 in all her eight arrows, while Deotale hit the centre on all but one occasion, scoring a 9.

The Indian duo's victory marks India's second gold medal in the mixed compound team event, the first being secured by Jyothi and veteran Abhishek Verma at the World Cup Stage 3 in Paris last year. In the afternoon session, Jyothi added to her impressive haul, clinching her maiden individual gold at the event with a convincing 149-146 win over Sara Lopez of Colombia in the final.Jyothi's triumph in the individual event avenged her loss to Lopez in the 2021 Yankton World Championship final, where she was defeated 144-146.

Throughout the semifinals and final at the Archery World Cup Stage 1, Jyothi dropped only three points, highlighting her remarkable consistency and composure under pressure.Jyothi's exceptional performance at the Archery World Cup Stage 1 is a testament to her dedication, skill, and focus. Her flawless shooting, combined with Deotale's impressive debut, helped secure India's gold in the mixed team event, while Jyothi's individual victory reaffirmed her position as one of India's top compound archers. Her haul of two gold medals is a remarkable achievement, and she has certainly earned her place in the hall of fame for archery.
